Running Backing Tracks (with Roland SPD-SX)

Running backing tracks at a gig or for a rehearsal can be a HUGE task. But the fact is, as people are relying on electronic sounds to produce music, backing tracks are becoming a normal part of live shows. So having some kind of set up to run tracks for a live show is growing in importance for any drummer who plays live.

There are a MILLION ways you can run tracks on stage, but the video above breaks down how to run tracks with a Roland SPD-SX. The three methods mentioned:

  • Simply using the internal click track of the unit
  • Using the internal click track on the Roland and manually triggering your backing tracks
  • Using your own click track sample and your own backing track sample and using the “pad link” feature
