Eric Moore | Drumeo Solo Excerpts
For now, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite transcriptions I did this year. And it features the one and only…Eric Moore. Eric is such a powerhouse player. His speed, groove, and precision are unbelievable. When transcribing, I often slow things down to better hear what is going on (check out my free transcription course for more on how I transcribe). Often, when slowing someone’s playing down, it gets to be really hard to hear subdivisions or placement of certain notes because any imprecise note is magnified at slower tempos. Sloppy playing gets much sloppier when slowed down.
In contrast, super accurate and articulate playing is incredibly easy to transcribe when slowed down. Eric Moore has some of the most precise note placement I’ve ever heard, he has an astounding sense of time and an uncanny ability to place notes precisely where they need to go.
This video (and the accompanying sheet music you can download below) features two different excerpts from Eric’s solo he played at Drumeo. You can see the full solo on YouTube, but I thought these two passages were interesting and I wanted to figure out exactly what Eric was doing. These two samples are similar to a few common fills/grooves I’ve heard before, but I feel like Eric puts such an interesting twist on how he plays them. And the groove that takes up most of the second transcription was just too cool to not transcribe.
Check out the video above to hear Eric’s playing at 100% speed and 50% speed, and then check out the sheet music below so you can work on this stuff in your next practice session. Thanks again for following what I do, it still blows my mind that people on the internet care at all about what I’m posting, but I can’t thank you enough for it.

What drum heads do you you use for you drums
I actually use several different heads, it all just depends on what sound I’m going for. In general though:
– Snare: Remo Controlled Sound
– Toms: Evans G2 clear (or Remo fyberskin for jazz)
– Kick: Remo Powerstroke
Hope that helps! But like I said, it changes quite often and some drums I have sound ideal with heads I really only use on that particular drum. The Remo Ambassador X is a great “all around head” for any drum as it is half way between a single and double ply so you can get a wider range of vibes and tuning out of it.
How many drum sets do you have
Quite a few. haha. I have 3 main kits and several snares I choose from depending on what gig I’m playing or track I’m recording.
